The brand was founded in the pre-revolutionary era, in 1935 in Cuba. Now it is owned by Habanos SA and it is one of the largest Cuban cigar brands in the world. The name of the brand comes from the masterpiece of Alexandre Dumas, “The Count of Monto Cristo”. The founder of the company, Alonso Menendez used to read from this book to the factory workers and this is how this epic name was chosen. The tobacco comes from the fertile region of Vuelta Abajo, one of the top locations for tobacco in the whole world thanks to the rich soil and humidity. The brand logo has fluer de lis as the central piece, showing the deep connection with the story of Monte Cristo. The cigars are fully hand-made and they show the premium craftsmanship of the Montecristo factory. The strength is medium to full but the aroma balance makes this cigar a delight.
